Dr. Lee Gurga was born and raised in Chicago. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and The University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago.
In addition to serving his dental patients, Dr. Gurga is an internationally recognized haiku poet, past president of the Haiku Society of America, and former editor of Modern Haiku, the leading haiku poetry journal outside Japan. In 2006 he was honored by the Japan-America Society of Chicago’s Cultural Achievement Award. He is a member of the U. of I. President’s Council and the steering committee for the U. of I.’s Japan House.
